About Lewisville
Located in southeast Denton County, Lewisville is 20 miles north of Dallas and is situated on rolling hills between Lewisville Lake and Grapevine Lake. Parks & Recreation
Lewisville residents have access to a number of parks and other recreational opportunities, including Lewisville Lake. The lake has three launch ramps, including one at Tower Bay Park. Lake Park offers a cricket field, batting cages, a miniature golf course and full-size 18- and nine-hole golf courses. Sun Valley Park has tennis courts. These parks and others throughout the city have playgrounds, picnic areas, ball fields, and basketball courts. A bandshell is located at Central Park. The Civil Circle Recreation Center and the Memorial Park Recreation Center offer weight rooms, racquetball courts, gymnasiums, activity rooms, and dance, fitness, and crafts classes.
Local Events
The city hosts a number of annual events to be enjoyed by the whole family. SummerBlast!, held at Lewisville Lake in June, features water sports demonstrations, sandcastle building competitions, a Hot Rod reunion, Dachshund races, food, and music. A fireworks show is held each July. In August, the Texas Open State Championship Chili Cook-off attracts over 250 cooks and thousands of people eager to taste every type of chili imaginable. The Dog Days of Summer dog show includes a variety of dog and owner contests. The Labor Day Rodeo draws thousands of people who cheer on the bull riders, the ropers, and the barrel racers.
Culture
Lewisville is known in Denton County as the place for shopping and dining. The Vista Ridge Mall is the primary destination. Other things to see in Denton County include historic homes, the Courthouse on the Square Museum, the Hangar 10 Flying Museum and the Texas First Ladies Gown Collection at Texas Women’s University.
Local Sports
Lewisville residents also have access to all that the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex has to offer.
